International Estonia Tartu Airport
International Tartu Airport is the second busiest international airport in Estonia. It is located in the second largest town of Estonia in Reola, Tartu County. The international airport opened its doors to the public in 1946. Since then, it has since massive reconstruction and expansion. Along with an increase in its users. Hence, eventually becoming an international airport; to serve both the civil and international communities.
Its major and most common regular flights are between the town and Helsinki, Finland. But being an international airport, it is open to other air carriers.
It was established to cater for medical aid. Also to airlift agricultural produce and resources back then. But the need for passenger flights saw it grow to become an airfield; to cater for the large demand. Most of the local flights in Estonia. As well as to neighboring countries; like Finland, Ukraine, Czech and Moscow started there operations from this airfield.
Although, it lost much of its glory; as other international airports in Estonia took up aircraft operations that it initially boasted off. It remains pivotal in the aviation industry. This is because of its excellent training base for aviation; which was established way back in the 90s; Estonian Aviation Academy. This is one of the highly regarded aviation institutions in Eastern Europe.
Aviation and international studies in Tartu
It was the desire to study something related with aviation; which led me to move to from Latvia to Tartu, Estonia some months ago. I had heard a lot of good reviews and stories about the Estonian Aviation Academy. That was among some of the best aviation school in Northern Europe. I wanted to join them. As a matter of facts, I made an application to join the college; though I’m still yet to join. Even though my application went through.
Particularly, it wasn’t easier for me to convince my parents to let me go to Estonia to study aviation. But they had to give in once they realized that I was decided on the issue. I arrived about two months ago here. However, things didn’t go as planned.
The whole unfortunate event started barely a week after I had arrived in Tartu. Upon arrival, I decided to explore more of the town. I also wanted to prepare for a bike tour; which was being organized locally and I had applied for. Cyclists will ever tell you that the best way to explore a place is to bike around. That is exactly what I did on the third day after arriving in Tartu.
Outdoor international activities in the region
Nonetheless, I went to a store and bought a second-hand bike; bike are ‘golden’ here. A brand new one will cost you a dime. Then I decided to hit the road to test my ‘ride’. It was awesome and the views were splendid. It was a beautiful scene exploring the town on the bike. The whole of that morning I went from place to place; street after street. I wanted to sate my thirst of my town and the nearing towns. After lunch, I rested for a while; before getting back to my adventures.
However, I had decided to bike from Tartu to Ulenurme. I was biking and sightseeing. It was while that I was nearing Rani that I got involved in a grisly road accident. As a matter of fact, I must have been carried away by the marvelous summer sights of the surrounding that I failed to notice a van; which was speeding towards me. Of course I was the one on the wrong. But I blame all that to my excitement. Nevertheless, I was left leg got a bad fracture. My elbow suffered a dislocation. It was the most intense pain that I have ever experienced in my life. It left me screaming loudly.
Medical situation in the town
I was rushed to Tartu University Hospital. There services were excellent; because there was not much paperwork before I was attended to. Even though I was a foreigner. I underwent a CT scan; which established the area where the fracture was located and the dislocation.
The leg fracture was sprinted and casted the same day. I was hospitalized for a day and discharged on the next. My parents came to visit me at the hospital. Unfortunately, I had to go back home with them; where I stayed for about three months; before returning back to Tartu. Even though I wasn’t completely on my feet.
Anyway, now I’m back and waiting to completely get healed; before I can join the aviation classes in the next semester. I must say that Tartu is still a beautiful town to be. For the past few weeks since I arrived, I’ve been undergoing some rehabilitation exercises; to help me restore my normal movement on the injured leg. I’ve been walking around the town for a few days, sometimes taking a bus to explored neighboring municipalities. However, I must say that the whole county is marvelous.
I’ve been able to visit various places of arts and culture. Also, I attended various festivals and taking nature walks. I believe that this is one of the perfect places for me to learn international aviation. With that said, I also look for awesome experiences when I join the aviation classes. Yet, I know there is a lot for me to learn and explore in Estonia.
