The economic status of the Republic of Estonia has been rapidly growing hence had the country described as Baltic Tiger. The robust growth of the economy has in the past decades attracted a lot of foreign investments as well has made the country to be a hub of competitive business investment in Eastern Europe. Aviation in Estonia is one of the key industries which have been highly developed and modernized to be able to cater for the influx of visitors and investors who fly to the country.
The aviation industry in the country is managed and supervised by the Estonian Civil Aviation Authority, which ensures that players in the industry meet the required aviation safety & security standards and also executes the aviation policies nationally and also internationally in co-ordination with other aviation organization all over the world.
Estonia has several international airports which ease flight transports both locally and internationally and also has various airfield for the military, other privately owned and smaller local airstrips to enable people to travel to various places in remote places in the country. Maybe one day as more with increased development, these smaller airfields will also be expanded to accommodate more travelers. I will be detailing more information about international airports in the country in the posts below.
There are various internationals airlines, domestic airlines and cargo air carriers which operate in the various airports in Estonia and they include:

My Passion for Aircraft
If you were to ask me anything about aviation and boys, I will plainly tell you that becoming a pilot is every boys dream. Whenever an aircraft buzzes in the air near boys at their tender age, they usually find it fascinating and long one day to become pilots. There is something about being airborne which resonates well with boys and helps them associate themselves with aircraft.
I wasn’t exceptional. I too loved flying although it wasn’t until I was about 17 that I had my first memorable flight journey. It is this nostalgic maiden flight which rekindled all the dreams that I had as a child. These dreams were so passionate that they pushed me later in life to join an aviation college in order to realize my dreams.
It all started back when I was a kid. My uncle used to work with the air force and every time he visited or we were together, we shared much about the ‘fun’ and ‘adventures’ that he had while airborne. I would always envision the thrills that he experienced and I always wanted to become much like him. I didn’t buy any of his ideologies that he had joined the military because he loved serving his country. For me, I saw someone who on a daily basis had all the fun and thrill that he longed for. It was like living life to the fullest and I always envied him.
Developing an Interest in Aviation
He must have seen that and saw my interest in aviation, because at the tender age of 8, he gifted me my first radio controlled helicopter. It wasn’t as sophisticated as today’s RC helicopters but it was the thing during those times. Actually, I didn’t know anyone in the neighborhood who owned such a toy and hence I was the king of the neighborhood. It was one of my most delicate pieces of toys back then and even though it eventually outlived its usefulness (after a lot of testing and repairs common with boys) I still keep its scrap safely in my personal box.
Usually, most of the childhood passions and dreams die with age and so was my obsession for aero planes. This was my situation. With time, I didn’t remember to look up in the skies whenever an aircraft was buzzing up or long to be a pilot anymore. Actually, after high school, I chose to pursue a degree in law. It was about this time that I was being taken to join college that I had my first flight experience.
It was the most awesome and nostalgic experiences ever and it made me long to become a pilot again. At first, I may have had some fear flight – something which made me take a seat at the front seats of the plane where it was more stable- but during the flight, all this fear was replaced by a deep conviction that piloting was what I really wanted in life.
A choice (I’d call it a decision) made from the first experience wasn’t some great news that I could break to my mum, who has recently beat breast cancer, as she accompanied me to my first day in college. I may have shied from telling her about it, but I felt that I needed to become a pilot, especially now that I have been doing the Atkins Diet to help me lose weight.
Pursuing my Dreams in Aviation
Anyway, I went to college and pursued my degree in law which I excelled in well. After college, I did practice for about 5 years before I decided that it was time for my piloting classes. I may have had been late in doing so, but all what I wanted in life was to ensure that I realize my childhood dreams. I wanted the quench the burning sensation in me. To achieve that, I joined a local aviation academy, where I started attending aviation classes.
Initially, I was set to only attain the private license, but after doing so, there was this urge to further pursue a commercial license. I felt that I was destined for something big. This came as a result of getting bored piloting small aircrafts for about two years. Currently, I enrolled for commercial license classes and I’m determined to ensure that I excel in them too. It may not be easier for me because currently I have a family and also I’m employed but I believe that one day I will achieve my dreams.
